Planning Managers lead and coordinate a team of engineers to develop robust tender and delivery programmes that comply with the Contract and Works Information. They ensure programmes reflect the most efficient, effective, and buildable sequence for delivering a project or defined sections of work. The role is responsible for defining and implementing appropriate programme control and monitoring methods to track progress and productivity. Planning Managers establish and manage Earned Value Analysis (EVA) systems to support Project and Commercial Managers in assessing achieved and forecast performance against time and budget. They ensure accurate, timely reporting of programme performance to both the project team and the VCUK business.

Duties

  • Manage the planning staff on the project to produce plans and programmes for submission, including associated reporting.
  • Ensure plans and programmes allow for safe working methods, timely construction, and the production of safety-related documentation.
  • Identify risks to the programme, include time risk allowances, and contribute to the project risk and opportunity log.
  • Communicate proposed methods and programme sequences to the project team and gain approval, using visual aids such as stage and sequence diagrams.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of temporary works options.
  • Liaise and negotiate with suppliers, clearly communicating proposed methods and sequences.
  • Assist the commercial team in evaluating supply chain quotations and methodologies that impact the programme.
  • Identify key resources and required resource levels within the programme.
  • Actively research issues and identify alternative solutions to programme or delivery challenges.
  • Manage the preparation of programme narratives for inclusion with programme submissions.
  • Lead the setup of programme monitoring systems (e.g. EVA) to meet Taylor Woodrow and client reporting requirements.
  • Assist the business/project in achieving objectives and targets set out in the Taylor Woodrow Carbon Strategy through day-to-day work activities.

Person Specification

  • Ability to coach and train graduate and junior planning team members in planning methods, techniques, and programme software.
  • Strong understanding of planning methodologies, sequencing, and visual communication techniques.
  • Knowledge of BIM, including an understanding of its implications and value proposition within the organisation.
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to research issues and develop alternative solutions.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and active participation in knowledge-sharing events.
  • Aware of sustainability and carbon reduction principles within construction planning and delivery.

Hours: Full Time - 40 hours - Monday to Friday
