We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Engineer with a strong Temporary Works background to support major project delivery in Suffolk. You will take responsibility for leading engineering activities across a defined section of works, bringing sound technical judgement, commercial awareness and the confidence to make informed decisions. You will often work within a broader engineering team but may also lead independently on smaller projects or packages. Temporary Works expertise will be central to your role - ensuring solutions are safe, compliant, well‑designed and fully integrated into construction methodology.
Key Responsibilities
- Temporary Works Leadership
- Lead Temporary Works coordination for your section, ensuring compliance with design, safety and procedural requirements.
- Challenge information, identify risk, propose solutions and drive safe, efficient buildability.
- Liaise with Temporary Works Designers, consultants and subcontractors to develop and approve engineering solutions.
- Anticipate engineering issues early and proactively resolve them to minimise disruption.
- Develop construction methodologies, with clear understanding of the critical path and wider project impacts.
- Manage the engineering input across your work area, delegating tasks effectively and mentoring junior engineers.
- Evaluate completed work and recommend improvements for future stages.
- Contribute to BIM Level 2 processes and promote high‑quality data management.
- Health, Safety & Environment
- Ensure all works, including Temporary Works, are delivered safely through robust RAMS and ongoing review.
- Manage subcontractors and suppliers to maintain a strong safety culture.
- Support project carbon‑reduction goals through efficient and sustainable engineering practices.
- Project & Commercial Management
- Plan and manage engineering activities to ensure progress remains on target.
- Assist in cost estimating for work packages and produce accurate engineering records and site documentation.
- Influence resource planning and contribute to effective project lifecycle management.
We’re looking for someone who has:
- Strong, demonstrable experience in Temporary Works within major civil engineering projects.
- Confidence in making engineering decisions with awareness of safety, commercial and programme considerations.
- Ability to lead engineering activities and mentor junior team members.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills - able to work with designers, consultants, clients and subcontractors.
- Knowledge of BIM Level 2 principles and digital information management.
- A proactive approach to problem‑solving, continuous improvement and innovation.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., MEng/BEng in Civil Engineering, ICE progression) is desirable.
