Job Description

Taylor Woodrow is recruiting for a Business Unit Director to lead our London and southern region. Based out of our offices in London, the Business Unit Director will be responsible for managing a team delivering upwards of £50m of works across frameworks for Network Rail, Highways England and local authorities

Job role:

  • Oversee a team of 100+ employees delivering civil engineering projects with a combined value of £50m+
  • Manage the Business Unit to deliver the Company’s Vision, Values and Strategy, whilst delivering upwards of 4.0% net profit & positive DSO results.
  • Ensure that the business unit remains agile, building the client base and knowledge of the team to cross multidiscipline.
  • Act as a role model that ensures all employees are valued, empowered & motivated to deliver a profitable business that is highly respected by all stakeholders for its quality of service delivery, professionalism, productivity, innovation, performance and customer care.
  • Build strong client relationships with all internal and external clients at multiple levels, whilst identifying and developing new strategic opportunities for growth through business planning.
  • Oversee Health, Safety & Environment whilst ensuring all employees and supply chain partners are aligned and engaged within the business targets.
  • Build the Regional Civils business experience in all sectors including Highways, Water, Energy and Rail
  • Embed a Performance Management culture, ensuring the business has the required systems, processes and expertise in place to drive continuous improvement to all Clients & Customers.
  • Embrace and promote a LEAN culture within the business that clearly shows demonstrable benefits to the delivery and financial return
  • Deliver a five-year plan on growth, opportunities, CAPEX investment and new solutions that can be sustainably delivered through annual plans that will maintain a continued high level of service and improve financial return
  • Ensure timely cash collection, positive cash flow, reduction in WIP and resolution to debt / financial disputes

Person Specification

  • Formal qualification in a Civil Engineering background or similar
  • Extensive experience as a manager in a Civils Contracting role
  • Fellow or Member with an appropriate influential Trade body experience (i.e. ICE, CIHT) is advantageous
  • Experience in management of full P&L
