We are seeking a Senior Engineer to join our Civils South West team, delivering critical geotechnical and drainage works as part of the CP7 framework. This is a key role managing engineering processes from design through to delivery, ensuring compliance, safety, and quality across multiple sites.
You will act as the Construction Responsible Engineer (CRE) for design sign-off, lead a team of engineers and apprentices, and liaise closely with design managers and subcontractors to ensure successful project outcomes.
Duties
- Manage engineering processes from design to delivery on CP7 geotechnical and drainage works.
- Act as CRE for design sign-off and technical assurance.
- Oversee health & safety inspections and compliance.
- Lead and mentor a team (graduate engineer, apprentices, site engineers).
- Manage subcontractors and challenge non-conformance.
- Handle technical queries, RFIs, NCRs, and material acceptance requests (MARS).
- Prepare and approve work package plans, CPPs, task briefs, and risk control schedules.
- Attend IDC/IDR meetings and liaise with design managers.
- Programme works and ensure timely delivery.
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Rail experience (Network Rail processes preferred).
- Strong civil engineering background (geotechnical/drainage).
- Ability to manage subcontractors and engineering teams.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Qualifications:
- Civil Engineering degree (preferably Master's).
- CSCS card.
- PTS (Personal Track Safety) β training can be provided.
- SMSTS or SSSTS (training can be provided).
Desirable:
- CRE experience.
- Membership of ICE and/or working towards chartership.
