Job Summary

The Assistant Finance Manager is key to assisting the Finance Manager in preparing the monthly management accounts (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cashflow and Land Bank Reporting) and the supplementary reporting of data and information to the Group. The role runs controlled finance processes and delivers accurate outputs in a timely manner. The role will deputise for the BU’s Finance Manager at the business unit level and has a process improvement mindset.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage the consolidated monthly close process, ensuring a clean close of all sub-ledgers, interfaces, and accounting judgements, with the general ledger closed by WD3.
  • Prepare and process month end journals.
  • Prepare monthly management reporting for the BU, including commentary on YTD and full-year forecast variances from the budget, for review by the FM and FD and incorporation in the monthly BUMT Board Report; reflect operational understanding.
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, including entries and accounts managed by central teams, ensuring items are correctly analysed and anomalies cleared in a timely manner; highlight issues to the FM during review.
  • Monitor cost excesses/savings and align with forecast.
  • NGP Joint Venture – produce management accounts and statutory accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, recharges, and board reporting for the JV.
  • NGP Joint Venture – liaise with external and internal agencies on VAT/Tax and Companies House returns.
  • NGP Joint Venture – liaise with commercial teams to account for excess and savings.
  • Contribute to the annual budgeting and planning process.
  • Explain and demonstrate key budget outputs across BU departments, including to non-financial audiences.
  • Ensure Finance Manual procedures are followed and timely dispensation sought where appropriate.
  • Support Finance Manager with external and internal audits and statutory accounts preparation as required.
  • Engage with BU teams to ensure TW Group financial policy and statutory requirements are met.
  • Support the Finance Manager and Finance Director by assisting in the preparation of financial information efficiently and promptly.
  • Contribute to the Finance Leadership team to manage, guide and motivate the Finance team; provide cover for direct reports and peers as required.
  • Other ad hoc projects, processes and procedures as required.

Experience, Qualifications, Technical Requirements

  • Previous industry experience.
  • Qualified Accountant – ACA, ACCA, CIMA, with prior experience as a financial accountant (or external auditor) and management accountant.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office and Excel (strong preferred).
