Reporting to the Data Protection Manager, you will support the organisation’s data protection and privacy compliance program, ensuring that personal data is processed lawfully, fairly and transparently, and that the rights of data subjects are protected across the Taylor Wimpey group. You will assist the Data Protection Manager with providing subject matter expertise on key strategic group projects and initiatives involving the processing of personal data.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the DP Manager to develop, implement and maintain Taylor Wimpey’s data protection, compliance and privacy policies, procedures and guidelines, in line with the UK Data Protection Act 2018, GDPR and other relevant legislation and best practices.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to 2 Data Protection Analysts.
  • Assist with DP remediation programme or audit actions such as policy/procedure drafting, retention, documenting the ROPA, designing training and awareness materials/communications.
  • Act as point of contact to our external data protection and compliance provider(s) and provide SARs related support as required to ensure the efficient and cost-effective management of SARs.
  • Support DSARs discovery searches, collating data in scope of the request, and quality review of DSARs redacted by our external provider.
  • Monitor and audit Taylor Wimpey’s data processing activities, and those of third‑party processors and controllers, identifying and addressing any risks or gaps in compliance.
  • Provide advice and guidance to staff and stakeholders on data protection and privacy matters, including data sharing, data retention, data security, data breach response and individual rights requests.
  • Review Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new or existing projects, systems or processes that involve personal data.
  • Deliver data protection training and awareness programmes for staff and volunteers and promote a culture of data protection awareness.
  • Act as point of contact for data subjects and other external parties on data protection and privacy issues and support investigation of complaints or queries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Keep up to date with the latest developments and trends in data protection and privacy law and coordinate with the DP Manager to adapt to changes.

Experience, Qualifications, Technical Requirements

  • A degree in law, information technology, information management or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Recognised data protection certification or qualification such as BCS, CIPP/E, CIPM or CIPT, or currently working towards such qualifications.
  • At least two years of experience in a data protection or privacy role, preferably in a similar sector or large organisation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the UK Data Protection Act, GDPR and other relevant data protection and privacy laws and regulations, and their application in practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex data protection and privacy concepts and issues to different audiences and levels of seniority.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to assess and manage data protection and privacy risks and opportunities.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A proactive and flexible approach, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast‑paced and changing environment.
