This is a strategic and operational role working alongside the head Partner (Business Group Director) for our Real Estate and Banking & Finance teams, ensuring that the commercial business plan is delivered effectively and aligned with evolving priorities. By managing key initiatives and streamlining workflows, this position allows the BGD more time to focus on client relationships and business development. The role plays an important part in driving strategic planning, performance management, and fostering innovation within the Business Group and its Practice Areas.
The role is a generalist role, operating alongside and in addition to, and not in substitution for, the specialist functional expertise dedicated to supporting the Business Group (Talent, Finance, Business Development, Risk). The role will work closely with Partners, lawyers, and business services teams to ensure the Business Groups alignment with firm wide objectives and will support data driven reporting to enable informed decision making and continuous improvement.
The role will have joint accountability to the Business Group Director and to the Chief Operating Officer. The weighting of involvement in any one area of the Business Group's Management activity will be at the direction of the BGD reflecting their personal choice as to where assistance would add the greatest value.
Key responsibilities- Develop, maintain, and adapt the Business Group Business Plan, ensuring it reflects evolving priorities and market conditions.
- Ensure Business Plan is being executed working with relevant stakeholders.
- Lead, coordinate, and advance special initiatives, projects, or interventions that arise from Business Group or Practice Area objectives, particularly those outside standard business-as-usual processes.
- Preparation of the periodic Business Group Executive Board and other firm level reporting, utilising data analytics and reporting tools to generate insights that inform strategic decision making.
- Cascade the Business Group Business Plan into individual Practice Area plans, ensuring alignment and consistency, working with senior BD, Talent and Finance advisors.
- Produce regular Practice Area performance reports to monitor progress and outcomes, identifying areas where AI tools and workflows can help create efficiencies.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and highlight key activities and performance achievements across Business Services teams supporting the Business Group, fostering collaboration and alignment with Practice Areas to optimise support for strategic priorities.
- Proactively identify instances where actual performance deviates from expectations outside of standard functional reporting, facilitating corrective interventions to bring performance back on track– working hand in hand with the relevant functional expertise.
- Help drive the adoption of AI technologies to support document drafting, knowledge management and client service delivery.
- Collaborate with the firm's innovation and IT teams to identify, evaluate and deploy legal technology solutions relevant to the Practice Area.
- Working with the Business Group Director on partner objectives ensuring they're aligned to the overall strategy and tracking them regularly.
- Working with the Business Group Director to ensure clear and regular communication on priorities at Partner and group wide level.
