Overview

The IP, Regulatory and Digital Senior BD Executive plays an important role supporting the delivery of strategic business development plans for the practice areas including Brands, Content and Advertising, Regulatory, Commercial Tech, Patents, Data and Cyber, FSR and Competition. The role operates across our global business, working closely with partners and lawyers in London, Dublin, Dubai and the US.

Key Responsibilities

  • With the Senior BD Manager drive the implementation of the IP, Regulatory and Digital BD & Marketing plans, leading on delivering BD objectives and engaging in strategy conversations with partners.
  • Have a clear approach to client targeting to win more high‑value contentious and regulatory work in our core sectors.
  • Facilitate proactive cross‑selling of our services across the firm.
  • Lead on drafting pitch documents and credential statements for the team.
  • Manage ownership of the Experience database, working with partners and associates to collect and verify data for directories, award submissions and pitches.
  • Collaborate with the Events and MBD Operations teams on client events, and run practice or sector‑specific seminars and networking events with clear ROI.
  • Develop and maintain marketing information for the groups, supported by the MBD Operations team in Liverpool.
  • Share key information with internal communications to ensure understanding of BD activities throughout the firm.
  • Lead on specific thought leadership campaigns, BD products, client communications and marketing initiatives, tracking ROI.
  • Manage the directory/award submission process to increase market profile and perception of the IP, Regulatory and Digital teams.
  • Build trust with stakeholders at all levels and promote the reputation of the BD, Marketing and Communications team.
  • Build strong working relationships with colleagues in international locations to strengthen collaboration and information exchange.
  • Represent the BD team effectively and positively within the BDMC executive peer group and across the function, presenting at BDMC meetings.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Solid business development/client relationship management experience at a similar level within the legal sector or professional services.
  • Ability to work to deadlines, juggle multiple projects and deliver under pressure.
  • Can‑do attitude with bias for action.
  • Proactive, tenacious and creative approach.
  • Strong commercial awareness and focus.
  • Experience within the IP, regulatory legal and/or tech sector beneficial but not required.
  • Excellent communication skills – written and oral.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire fee earners to deliver business goals and change behaviour where required.
