The Role
Alongside core accounting responsibilities, you will lead initiatives focused on process improvement, systems development, automation, and the implementation of AI-enabled workflows. This position is ideal for someone who combines strong accounting expertise with a passion for technology, continuous improvement, and driving business performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce accurate monthly management accounts within agreed deadlines
- Deliver clear, timely, and actionable management information (MI)
- Analyse profitability across transport, warehousing, and key contracts
- Work with management to identify, implement, and optimise accounting systems and tools
- Drive the adoption of automation and AI to improve reporting efficiency and insight
- Improve reporting timelines, consistency, and data quality
- Support cashflow management and forecasting
- Partner with operational teams to understand cost drivers and improve margins
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes
- Develop and mentor junior finance staff
- Review and enhance financial processes and controls
- Provide commercial insight to support strategic business decisions
About You
- Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA) or qualified by experience
- Strong background in management accounts and financial reporting
- Experience or a genuine interest in systems improvement, automation, or AI tools within finance
- Previous experience within logistics, transport, warehousing, or other operationally focused businesses is advantageous
- Proven ability to improve reporting quality and delivery timelines
- Commercially minded with the ability to turn financial data into meaningful business insight
- Proactive, hands-on approach with a continuous improvement mindset
- Strong Excel skills and experience using accounting systems (Sage experience preferred)
