About the Opportunity
I’m working with a high-profile international retail client that’s deeply committed to sustainability, ethical business, and regulatory excellence. As they continue to evolve and lead in responsible retailing, they’re looking to appoint a Senior Legal Counsel – ESG & Regulatory to join their dynamic in-house legal team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a commercially minded and purpose-driven lawyer to play a strategic role in shaping ESG and regulatory compliance across a global business. You’ll work closely with senior leaders, influence decision-making at the highest levels, and help embed ESG into the company’s DNA.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Advising senior stakeholders on a wide range of ESG, regulatory, and governance matters.
- Leading legal input into sustainability strategy and ESG reporting obligations.
- Monitoring legal developments across UK, EU, and global markets, and proactively managing risk.
- Collaborating cross-functionally to align legal, operational, and ethical priorities.
- Drafting and negotiating commercial agreements with ESG and compliance considerations.
- Managing external counsel and ensuring legal advice is clear, timely, and cost-effective.
- Mentoring junior legal team members and contributing to a high-performing legal function.
- Supporting a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

- UK qualified solicitor with 7–10 years’ PQE.
- Strong background in regulatory or ESG law, ideally across multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience in private practice and/or in-house, preferably in retail or consumer sectors.
- Confident managing regulatory investigations and compliance projects.
- Excellent communicator with the ability to simplify complex legal issues for non-legal audiences.
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and a genuine interest in sustainability.
