Head of Legal & Data Protection (Global Role) London - hybrid working (2–3 days in office) £130,000-150,000 salary + bonus (No equity)
The Company
We’re working with a high-growth, international, private equity-backed B2C business operating across 30+ countries. The Group General Counsel is seeking to appoint a Head of Legal & Data Protection to join its small legal team. This is a rare opportunity to step into a broad, high-impact role at the intersection of legal leadership, data protection, and commercial strategy within a global platform business.
The Opportunity
You will operate as Head of Legal and act as the organisation’s UK Data Protection Officer working closely with the Group General Counsel as a true right hand. The business has scaled rapidly through international expansion and acquisitions, and this role will shape the journey of its legal and privacy infrastructure. You would expect a 50/50 split between data protection and broader legal work, with significant exposure to senior stakeholders and strategic projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting the GC in developing and shaping the legal function
- Acting as UK DPO, building a multi-jurisdictional data protection framework, advising on complex data matters, and overseeing international privacy arrangements
- Drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements (incl. SaaS, supplier, customer)
- Advising on IP, procurement, and regulatory matters
- Leading on DSARs, breach management, DPIAs, and internal training
- Supporting on strategic projects, including international expansion and governance initiatives
- Managing external counsel and ongoing legal risk across jurisdictions
About You
We’re looking for a commercially minded lawyer with strong privacy expertise, who thrives in scale-up environments. You will ideally be 5-10PQE and looking to step into a combined Head of Legal and DPO position. You must be comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment.
Key requirements:
- Qualified lawyer with significant data protection and commercial legal experience
- Proven track record operating across multiple jurisdictions
- Strong grounding in DSARs, DPIAs, and privacy governance frameworks
- Comfortable handling commercial legal work alongside privacy
- Pragmatic, solutions-focused, and able to operate with autonomy
- Background in consumer-facing industries
- Exposure to high-growth or private equity-backed environments
Why This Role Stands Out
- True breadth: Not siloed - you’ll operate across the full legal spectrum
- Global exposure: Work across 30+ jurisdictions in a complex, decentralised environment
- Build & shape: Opportunity to create scalable systems and influence how the business operates
- Senior visibility: Direct interaction with leadership and regional decision-makers
- Growth context: Join a business continuing to scale, with strong investor backing and a clear growth trajectory
