An international law firm is seeking an experienced Financial Crime & Sanctions Advisor to join its Risk & Compliance function on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

This is a broad advisory role where you will provide expert guidance on AML/CTF and sanctions matters, supporting stakeholders across the business on complex financial crime issues.

You will act as a key escalation point for sanctions-related queries, advising on the application of UK, US, EU and Australian sanctions regimes, while helping to assess and manage financial crime risks associated with client onboarding and new business activity.

The position will also involve reviewing unusual activity reports and handling more complex financial crime referrals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Policy & Compliance
  • Contribute to AML/CTF reform projects and wider financial crime initiatives.
  • Support the development and implementation of AML/CTF policies, procedures and controls.
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement and help ensure policies remain aligned with regulatory developments.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to approvals, incidents, exceptions and remediation activities.
  • Risk Management
  • Assist with the identification and resolution of sanctions-related incidents, working with stakeholders to implement appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Conduct financial crime risk assessments and gap analysis reviews.
  • Support the development of remediation plans and risk controls.
  • Participate in investigations and post-incident reviews to strengthen financial crime controls.
  • Regulatory Affairs
  • Support responses to regulatory enquiries, audits and information requests.
  • Prepare evidence and briefing materials for internal and external reviews.
  • Assist with the completion of industry and regulatory surveys.

About You

To be considered for this opportunity, you will

  • Be degree educated and bring at least four years' experience within a regulated financial crime environment.
  • You will possess a strong understanding of financial crime legislation and AML/CTF requirements, together with detailed knowledge of international sanctions regimes, including OFSI, OFAC, EU and DFAT frameworks.
  • Be comfortable managing sensitive and confidential matters, combining strong analytical and research skills with sound commercial judgement.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with the ability to build trusted relationships with stakeholders across the business.
