The client

A prestigious single-family office based in London is seeking a Legal Director to join its lean and high-calibre team. This newly created role will report directly to the General Counsel and play a key role in advising the family office on a broad range of legal matters. The successful candidate will support a sophisticated and growing organisation with a multi-asset investment portfolio spanning public and private markets, real estate, and estate planning.

The role

  • The Legal Director will be responsible for reviewing and negotiating funds and investment legal documentation
  • They will work closely with investment teams and external counsel to ensure smooth transaction execution and provide legal insight into investment structures, financing arrangements, and cross-border exits.
  • The role also involves maintaining corporate records, ensuring high standards of governance and compliance, drafting constitutional documents and board resolutions, and managing a wide range of commercial contracts and employment-related legal matters.
  • In addition, the Legal Director will liaise with external advisors to oversee trust, foundation, and estate planning structures, and advise on charitable donations and grant agreements.
  • They will assist the General Counsel in managing relationships with external legal, tax, and fiduciary advisors, while providing timely, pragmatic legal advice to principals and senior stakeholders. The role requires close coordination with internal teams across investments, finance, tax, HR, and philanthropy.

The ideal candidate

  • The ideal candidate will be a qualified solicitor with at least 5 years\' post-qualification experience from a top-tier London law firm.
  • They will have either in-house experience-ideally within a family office, asset manager, or financial services firm-or a strong private client background.
