A global, complex and highly regulated FMCG business is seeking an experienced UK Employment Counsel to join its in-house legal team. This is a broad and influential role, partnering closely with senior stakeholders and the People function, covering the full spectrum of UK employment law. The position offers high visibility, autonomy and the opportunity to work on strategic projects within a fast-moving, international environment.

As Employment Counsel, you will advise across the entire employment lifecycle, providing pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice to the business. You will support day-to-day employment matters while also contributing to larger organisational change and governance initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Advising on recruitment, onboarding, performance management, exits and senior employee matters
  • Drafting, reviewing and maintaining employment contracts, policies, contractor arrangements and related documentation
  • Providing guidance on employee relations issues, investigations and sensitive workplace matters
  • Managing Employment Tribunal claims and pre-action disputes, including strategy, negotiation and settlement
  • Supporting restructurings, redundancies and TUPE processes in the UK and on cross-border matters
  • Monitoring legislative developments and delivering training to HR and business stakeholders
  • Advising on employee data privacy matters, including DSARs
  • Working closely with senior leaders, HR and external counsel
  • Supporting wider legal and commercial initiatives, including employment aspects of commercial contracts

About You:

  • UK-qualified solicitor with 4+ years’ PQE in employment law
  • Experience gained in private practice and/or in-house
  • Strong background across both contentious and non-contentious employment matters
  • Comfortable operating in a complex, regulated or international organisation
  • Commercially minded with the ability to provide clear, practical advice
  • Confident communicator with excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Well organised, resilient and able to manage competing priorities
  • Curious and forward-thinking, with an interest in improving legal processes and using legal technology
