The team acts for a diverse client base ranging from local enterprises to national and global businesses, as well as states and state-owned entities. The practice offers exposure to major business disputes, class actions, and strategic commercial advisory work, with opportunities to develop specialist expertise.
Due to continued growth, our client is seeking an Associate to join the team in Birmingham. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside experts in areas such as corporate disputes, group actions, supply chain disputes, technology and outsourcing disputes, and civil fraud matters.
While the Associate role requires strong generalist skills, there is real scope to specialise over time - making this an ideal role for ambitious lawyers seeking structured development in a supportive, high-performance environment.
Role and Key ResponsibilitiesYou will:
- Represent clients on a broad range of commercial disputes, including matters involving high-profile energy and utilities clients, and leading industrial, technology, manufacturing and consumer businesses.
- Work on some of the largest and most complex cases within the firm, as well as managing smaller standalone matters.
- Work directly with partners and senior lawyers, and collaborate within larger teams for major disputes.
- Engage actively with clients and colleagues across the business.
- Contribute to business development initiatives and help build client relationships.
Our client is looking for:
- Strong academic background and legal training, ideally with experience in commercial dispute resolution.
- 1-5 years' post-qualification experience with exposure to a range of commercial disputes.
- A proactive, motivated approach and the flexibility to handle varied matters, with opportunities to develop specialist expertise (e.g., international arbitration, technology disputes, product liability).
- A track record of providing excellent client service.
- Exposure to business development activity and a good understanding of how to win work.
- Excellent communication skills to build strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
- International or cross-border experience (desirable but not essential).
