You’ll be joining a close-knit Legal team of three qualified solicitors. The team plays a critical role in ensuring the business operates within robust legal frameworks, managing risks, supporting commercial decisions, and enabling growth. Their work spans client and market agreements, supplier arrangements, dispute management, and advising the business on the interpretation and implementation of legal and regulatory requirements.
The Legal Counsel will be central to managing legal risk, providing strategic guidance, and ensuring compliance across the organisation’s global operations. This is a broad and varied role covering insurance law, regulatory advisory work, litigation management, commercial contracting, employment matters, and delivering internal training. You’ll also contribute to shaping the company’s legal strategy across multiple jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities- Legal Strategy & Risk Management
- Develop and implement the organisation’s legal strategy to support business objectives.
- Identify, evaluate, and mitigate legal risks across new projects, systems, and operational procedures.
- Monitor legal and regulatory changes and advise on implementation.
- Insurance-Specific Legal Work
- Draft and review insurance-related contracts.
- Advise on insurance law matters including contract wording, liabilities, placement strategies, and broker obligations.
- Support the development and maintenance of internal policies.
- Regulatory Compliance
- Partner with Compliance to advise on UK and international regulatory matters.
- Ensure contracts and processes remain aligned with regulatory developments.
- Provide guidance on complaints, conduct, and fraud issues.
- Litigation Management
- Manage E&O matters and liaise with external counsel.
- Oversee commercial disputes and employment-related litigation.
- Draft and review settlement agreements and restrictive covenants.
- General Commercial Work
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts across Finance, IT, Operations, and other departments.
- Handle intellectual property queries, including trademarks and copyright.
- Support the review and management of global office leases.
- Employment Matters
- Advise on restrictive covenants and consultancy agreements.
- Partner with HR on disputes, recruitment, and contract reviews.
- Support organisational restructuring where required.
- Training & Legal Updates
- Deliver training on E&O, NDAs, procurement, and other legal topics.
- Provide the business with updates on relevant case law, regulatory changes, and industry issues.
- High attention to detail and the ability to manage complex, multi-jurisdictional matters.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to balance commercial and legal considerations.
- Adaptability and comfort working across multiple legal disciplines.
