The Opportunity
Our client, a leading UK law firm with a highly respected Insurance & Public Risk practice, is seeking an Associate to join its market-leading Technical Claims team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer looking to develop their career within complex defendant litigation, working alongside highly regarded Partners and Senior Associates on challenging, high-value and often reputationally significant matters.
The team advises a broad range of clients on complex and sensitive claims, providing high-quality legal services across a diverse defendant insurance litigation portfolio. The successful candidate will join a collaborative and supportive environment, with significant opportunities for learning, development and progression.
The Role
The role will focus on handling a varied caseload of defendant insurance litigation matters while supporting senior lawyers on complex and high-value claims.
Areas of work include:
- Serious injury claims
- Employers’ Liability (EL) claims
- Public Liability (PL) claims
- Short-tail and long-tail disease litigation
- Human rights-related claims
- Discrimination claims
- Data breach matters
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing your own portfolio of claims from inception through to resolution.
- Assisting on complex, high-value and strategically significant litigation matters.
- Providing high-quality legal advice and support to clients.
- Drafting correspondence, legal documents and reports.
- Reviewing and analysing medical records and expert evidence.
- Managing litigation procedures and ensuring compliance with the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR).
- Developing strong relationships with clients, experts, counsel and other stakeholders.
- Participating in business development initiatives, client events, seminars and training programmes.
- Delivering management information and supporting client service initiatives.
- Contributing to a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
- Potential opportunities for client secondments.
Candidate Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
Essential
- Qualified Solicitor, Legal Executive or equivalent experience.
- A strong understanding of civil litigation procedure and the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR).
- Excellent legal research and analytical skills.
- Strong drafting abilities, with experience producing clear and concise legal documents and advice.
- Confident verbal communication skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure.
- Experience using case management systems and legal technology platforms.
- A genuine interest in defendant insurance litigation.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
Desirable
- Previous experience in defendant insurance litigation.
- Experience handling EL, PL, disease or serious injury claims.
- Knowledge of policy coverage principles, liability assessment and claims valuation.
