Applicants should be within an approximate 45 minute commute of the Hereford area (with some flexible/remote working after probation… 2-3 days per week)

We are working with a well-established, family-run construction business (small principle contractor) based in the Hereford area, who are looking to appoint an experienced Construction Estimator to support this SME’s continued growth. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of the estimating function within a small, close-knit business and work closely with the Director. With a long-standing team member set to retire in the coming months, this role offers the chance to step into a key position and play a vital part in shaping the future of the department.

This role would ideally suit someone who enjoys being hands on, wants to be more involved in the wider commercial aspects of projects, and is keen to contribute to the growth and development of a business at a local level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with pre-qualification submissions (PQQs) and appraisal of tender opportunities
  • Review tender documentation and identify risks and opportunities
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates and tender submissions
  • Measure and price materials, labour, and subcontract packages
  • Manage project costs from procurement through to final account
  • Liaise with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
  • Provide commercial and contractual support to project teams
  • Help ensure projects are delivered within budget and financial targets

About You

Essential:

  • Proven experience as an Estimator, Quantity Surveyor duties
  • Experience across a range of construction sectors
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, cost management, and relevant legislation
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
  • Excellent numerical, analytical, and communication skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualification (HNC/HND, Degree or equivalent)
  • Experience within the UK construction market – this Client does not work within a niche market, so general construction estimating experience is essential
  • Full UK driving licence
