Our client is looking for a financial analyst. This role requires a PQ/Qualified Accountant with a particular interest in Data and Reporting. The role is Office Based in Canary Wharf, London. The team is responsible for complying with legally mandated biofuel obligations set in both the UK and Ireland. Certificates, which can be traded between obligated companies, are awarded to reflect the quantity and type of biofuel added to road fuel. The processes for the awarding of certificates are administered by government agencies and include complex rules, fixed deadlines, and financial penalties.

The successful incumbent will be self-motivated and highly disciplined, working collaboratively and proactively leading the co-ordination of the requirements to ensure compliance with the legal requirements. Responsibilities include:

  • Tracking the physical fossil and biofuel content of all product movements throughout the supply chain using oil accounting systems.
  • Identifying any discrepancies in data and promptly working with internal or external parties to resolve differences.
  • Maintaining and following procedures required to support trading of physical biofuel, including the issuing of Carbon and Sustainability data.
  • Reviewing all documentation to ensure compliance with national and ISCC regulations, including country of origin and greenhouse gas saving (GHG - checked using on-line Carbon Calculator).
  • Maintaining a robust mass balance for Refinery biodiesel and storage location specific ethanol, tracking all product stock movements using the Valero oil accounting system and other systems.
  • Entering claims in external web-based Government systems and working with the appointed Valero verifier to obtain their sign-off prior to submission.
  • Reviewing all biofuel trade documentation to ensure that the contracts contain necessary clauses to protect the company's ability to make certificate claims in both the UK and Ireland.

Competencies / Skills:

  • Interest in automation / streamlining work processes to reduce manual entry error risks.
  • Significant industry knowledge and commercial acumen.
  • Excellent skills across all Microsoft packages.
