Offshore Lead Cables Engineer for a major offshore wind project in Ireland

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert end-to-end engineering for HV and EHV submarine cable projects at various stages of development for both fixed and dynamic cable applications for voltages ranging from 66 kV to 400 kV.
  • Develop and review cable system designs, including conductor sizing, insulation selection, armoring, and sheath configurations.
  • Perform thermal, electrical, and mechanical analyses, including ampacity calculations and cable rating studies.
  • Define technical requirements, specifications, and acceptance criteria for cables and accessories.
  • Support the early-stage development and FEED phase of projects.
  • Provide expertise for submarine cable packages across design, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning phases.
  • Oversee type testing, factory acceptance testing, Site Acceptance Testing at manufacturer facilities.
  • Design review and due diligence for submarine cable projects with respect to the Employer's Requirements.
  • Manage engineering interfaces between cable suppliers, installation contractors, OEMs, and internal project teams.
  • Work with contractors to investigate ways to optimise cable burial and route engineering.
  • Provide engineering input into route engineering, burial assessments, and cable protection strategies.
  • Review installation methodologies including lay operations, jointing procedures, pull-ins and termination works.

Qualifications

  • Essential Minimum of 7 years' relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of HV/EHV cable design, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Expertise in subsea cable installation engineering and marine operations including cable laying and burial campaigns, cable embedment, submersible vehicle operations, vessel positioning and commercial diving procedures.
  • Experience with submarine cable installation and testing.
  • Experience in technical and commercial evaluation of submarine cable systems.
  • Experienced in contract preparation and evaluation for vessels and subsea operations.
