Responsibilities will include:

  • Supervise 2 cashiers and 1 billing clerk, managing daily workloads and acting as the first point of contact for support and queries.
  • Oversee the cashiering inbox, ensuring tasks are completed, acting as a point of escalation for queries, and providing regular reports.
  • Collaborate closely with the Finance Director on projects aimed at streamlining the cashiering and billing processes, as well as reporting and bank reconciliation.
  • Manage the purchase ledger, reconcile supplier statements, credit cards, and counsel fee notes.
  • Address queries from fee earners, support staff, and the bank.
  • Developing relationships with all of our experts (including Chambers) to ensure that fee notes are requested across all matters regularly.
  • Regular review of WIP, along with fee notes requested, ensuring that these are compared to the fees estimated to the client, and communicate with the fee earners when they come close to the limit so they can manage their clients.
  • Monthly case status updates to each client that is being charged hourly to ensure full transparency per Legal Ombudsman guidelines.
  • Raising invoices and sending these to clients, along with chasers where appropriate.
  • Attendance at the billing meetings to update accounts across all matters, in lieu of the fee earners.
  • Actively managing the firm's debt position, which includes following up with clients for payment.
  • Providing cover and support to Legal Cashiers and Billing Clerk as necessary.
  • Ensure that all transactions are handled in accordance with the SRA Accounts Rules.
  • Responsible for liaising with external auditors, specifically in relation to the Solicitors Accounts Rules Audit.
