Our client, a small but ambitious and evolving building society is seeking to appoint a Chair of Audit Committee, a critical hire at a defining point in its journey. Whilst strong audit, capital and liquidity expertise is essential, the society is looking for an individual who can bring experience, judgement and perspective to support a Board that continues to develop.

You will ideally be a qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) with building society experience preferred, alongside broader financial services experience, and someone who has previously navigated multiple economic cycles and is able to guide the board through periods of uncertainty and change.

The board is capable and committed, but relatively inexperienced. The society is now seeking a Chair of Audit who can facilitate discussion rather than dominate it, someone who will challenge constructively, draw out thinking and help support the development of the board as a whole. This requires a careful balance of credibility, emotional intelligence and collaborative leadership.

Cultural fit will be as important as technical expertise. The organisation is purpose-led, member-focused and open to change, with a board that is diverse in perspective and not traditionally “banking” in its composition. You will work closely with the CEO and a finance function that is technically strong but continuing to build strategic depth, helping to ensure that governance, risk and financial oversight evolve in step with the organisation’s ambition.

We are open to first-time NEDs who can demonstrate the right depth of experience, judgement and approach.
