The Editor, PeerJ, supports the editorial and strategic development of our PeerJ / PeerJ Computer Science journals by providing guidance to the manuscript assessment team, managing complex peer review issues, and advising the Chief Editor on scientific and editorial standards. The role also involves conducting ethical investigations, commissioning content, promoting submissions, and representing the journal at conferences.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide expert peer review support and act as escalation point for complex manuscript assessments.
- Recruit, vet, train and maintain communication with Editorial Board members.
- Advise on scientific, technical and editorial matters for stakeholders.
- Contribute to updates of Scope, Editorial Policies and Author Instructions.
- Promote manuscript submissions via targeted outreach.
- Oversee peer review processes, ensuring timely and high‑quality reviews.
- Represent the journal at conferences to network, gain feedback and promote open research initiatives.
- Support content commissioning by suggesting high‑quality topics.
- Drive journal promotion through relevant channels.
- Collaborate with the Chief Editor for strategic development of the journal program.
- Lead and manage ethical investigations in accordance with publishing standards.
- Collaborate across departments to address the needs of publishing academics.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance peer‑review KPIs.
- Foster team collaboration with Editorial Community and Desk Editor teams.
Ideal Candidate
- Advanced degree (PhD preferred; post‑doctoral experience a plus).
- Excellent English comprehension and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Strong analytical, decision‑making and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a positive team spirit.
- Knowledge of the academic publishing industry.
