We currently have an exciting vacancy for an Editor I level position on a maternity cover basis (likely length of contract will be 9 months) on the Routledge Psychology list. The role involves the proactive commissioning of new books and new editions in the following areas:

  • Psychology Research Methods

It also requires managing the frontlist program of new manuscripts for production in these areas. The role is varied and motivating and involves working with an international range of high-profile academic and professional authors. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate who would like to gain experience working across varied product types and shaping growth areas of the Psychology list.

The successful applicant should possess strong commercial awareness, excellent networking skills, and the ability to work with internal departments such as digital, production, marketing, rights, and sales to help ensure revenue goals are met.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Meeting annual commissioning and revenue goals, commissioning new professional and academic books in order to meet market needs;
  • Meeting annual publishing goals, working closely with one or more editorial assistants to ensure that manuscript submission, production, and publishing deadlines are met;
  • Attending virtual and in-person events (which may necessitate travel around the UK or overseas) to enhance subject knowledge and build relationships with key contacts as needed;
  • Developing awareness of different products and publishing formats and maintaining an understanding of business needs and objectives;
  • Close collaboration with a global editorial team to develop and maintain strategy for the list as well as overall strategy of the Psychology team;
  • Close collaboration and relationship management with authors as well as editorial, journals, production, marketing, rights and sales colleagues.

You must have the right to live and work in the UK to be considered for this role. We believe that great things happen when people connect face-to-face. That's why we work in-person with each other, or with customers and partners, three days a week or more. When you’re not spending time together in one of our offices or other workplaces - like at conference - you get the flexibility and support to work from home or remotely.

The successful candidate will be able to utilise our balanced working model. We ask that candidates live within a commutable distance of our offices to ensure that as a balanced worker they can make it to our office locations to collaborate as required. There is an expectation for a minimum of 3 days per week in-person time, with those 3 days a week spent in our office in Milton Park, Oxfordshire or our office in London Blackfriars.
