An established independent professional services firm is seeking a senior R&D Tax professional to strengthen its specialist team.

This is an opportunity to join an established R&D tax practice at an important stage of its development. The team is looking for an experienced individual who can combine strong technical R&D tax expertise with commercial awareness, client relationship management and the ability to contribute to the continued growth of the service offering.

The position would suit a senior R&D tax specialist, ideally at Senior Manager level, although an individual operating at Director level may also be considered. Experience in corporate tax alongside R&D tax would be particularly valuable.

THE ROLE

• Manage and develop a portfolio of R&D tax clients, overseeing both the technical and tax submission aspects of assignments.
• Lead the preparation and delivery of R&D tax claims, ensuring technical reports and tax submissions are appropriately integrated.
• Provide technical guidance on complex R&D tax matters and associated claim risks.
• Develop strong client relationships, understanding commercial objectives and delivering practical, commercially focused advice.
• Contribute to the development of the R&D tax team, supporting and mentoring junior colleagues.
• Work closely with the wider tax practice, identifying opportunities for collaboration and broader client support.
• Contribute to the strategic development and growth of the R&D tax offering.

YOUR BACKGROUND

• Significant experience specialising in R&D tax, ideally gained within a recognised professional services or specialist tax practice.
• Preferably already at Senior Manager level or experienced Tax Director.
• Strong technical understanding of R&D tax claims, including the preparation of supporting technical reports and tax submissions.
• Commercially minded, with the ability to manage client expectations, fees and delivery.
• Excellent client relationship and communication skills.
• Experience managing, developing or mentoring junior team members.
• A corporate tax background alongside R&D tax experience would be a particular advantage.
• CTA qualification or equivalent professional tax experience would be beneficial.
