We are looking for a Bookkeeper to join our expanding teams located in Plymouth. This is an office based role. Our work is varied and interesting and we provide a friendly, flexible, and proactive all year-round service to small businesses and individuals in the local area.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Business Services Manager, you’ll take lead responsibility for the day to day operation of our flagship ‘Real Time Bookkeeping’ service. This service sees us deliver bookkeeping services keeping our clients cloud software packages up to date in real time. You will work with a broad portfolio of customers, from small sole traders to companies with seven figure turnover, using Xero, QuickBooks and Dext to an advanced level. At month end you will be heavily involved in production of management reports, and quarterly with VAT return preparation. Making Tax Digital will become an increasingly key part of this role too – you’ll have plenty of opportunity to take a pivotal role in designing and fine tuning our processes here. Our Real Time Bookkeeping service already utilises leading automation and AI techniques. As we go forwards you’ll have a key role to play in implementing further advances with both automation and AI as opportunities evolve.

The Key Duties Of This Role Are As Follows

  • Daily bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients, including invoice processing, bank reconciliations, journal adjustments, monthly ledger maintenance and periodic quality checks.
  • Preparing VAT returns for a variety of VAT schemes.
  • Supporting our Payroll and CIS team.
  • Using Xero, QuickBooks, and Dext to maintain high quality, accurate and consistent records and produce management information.
  • Maintaining expert level knowledge across Xero, Quickbooks and DEXT.
  • Tax and Accounts preparation.
  • Liaising with clients to resolve queries and ensure timely delivery of services.

Ideal Candidate Experience Requirements

  • Proven practical experience bookkeeping within an accountancy practice setting.
  • Minimum AAT or equivalent.
  • Comprehensive understanding and fluency in double entry bookkeeping.
  • Strong communication skills and a client-focused attitude.
  • A strong and practical working knowledge of Xero and/or QuickBooks is essential.
  • Experience of Dext (or AutoEntry, Hubdoc or Apron) is highly desirable.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • A proactive and enthusiastic approach to both learning about, and adopting, new technologies and ways of working, including robotic process automation and AI.
  • Above all, you will be enthusiastic with a “can do” attitude and be able to work independently with appropriate support.
  • You should be proactive, with a problem-solving attitude.
  • You will be confident in engaging with clients to build a rapport and offer solutions and direction.

Salary And Benefits
