Tax Effective Ltd is a small, modern, digital-first accountancy practice based in Bayswater, Central London.
We provide bookkeeping, accountancy and reporting support to a portfolio of clients.
Through our sister company, the team also supports fractional CFO/FD services and financial analytics work.
About the role
We are looking for an experienced
Accounts Assistant / Bookkeeper to take ownership of day-to-day bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients and support regular management reporting.
You will work alongside and report to the Senior Client Manager.
This is a hands-on position for someone who is already confident managing bookkeeping tasks, preparing VAT returns, processing payroll and using Excel for reporting without close supervision.
The role offers the opportunity to build experience beyond core bookkeeping, including management reporting, financial analytics and advisory-related work.
- What you’ll be doing
- Managing bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients using Xero, Sage and Free Agent.
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns.
- Processing client payroll.
- Managing PAYE, pensions and auto-enrolment, RTI submissions and statutory payments.
- Producing a daily management or “flash” report in Excel for a key client.
- Producing monthly churn data and client summary reports.
- Completing general finance administration to support the smooth running of the practice.
- Working closely with the Senior Client Manager to ensure client work is accurate and completed on time.
Full training will be provided on the specific daily flash-reporting process.
Essential requirements
To be considered for this role, you must have
- 1–2 years’ hands-on bookkeeping experience.
- Confidence managing the bookkeeping cycle without close supervision.
- Practical experience using Xero and other bookkeeping software.
- Experience preparing VAT returns.
- Experience processing payroll.
- Advanced Excel skills used in a working environment.
- Confident knowledge of VLOOKUP or XLOOKUP, multiple or nested IF logic and Pivot Tables.
- The ability to take ownership of your workload.
- Strong accuracy and the ability to work at pace.
- The ability to work independently without close supervision.
- The ability to commute reliably to the London W2 office five days per week.
- The unrestricted, ongoing right to work in the UK, with no time limit and no requirement for visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

This is a fully office-based role at Tax Effective Ltd in London W2 5SH.
You will be required to work from the office five days per week and must be able to commute to W2 reliably each working day.
