Tax International Services Kft, operating under the trade name Tax Desk, is dedicated to becoming the worldβs premier platform for regulatory compliance. We are a technology-driven company offering businesses an innovative online solution for managing indirect tax obligations across 60 countries. Our platform seamlessly integrates VAT registrations, tax calculations, filings, notifications, centralized document storage, and payments. Additionally, clients benefit from the expertise of our experienced, multilingual team of tax professionals.
We are seeking a Data Integration Engineer to design and build an end-to-end ETL platform that ingests client transactional data and transforms it into VAT-ready output using business-configurable transformation rules. The role covers the full ETL lifecycle β building connectors, applying transformations, and producing validated output β with a strong focus on enabling non-technical users (e.g. VAT specialists, operations teams) to configure, maintain, and evolve data transformation rules without code changes.
You will design the technical foundations that allow business users to safely express transformation logic, while ensuring correctness, auditability, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities- Extraction & Connectors
- Design and maintain connectors to ingest data from client systems, including: Accounting, ERP, billing, and e-commerce platforms; File-based feeds (CSV, XML, JSON) via SFTP or secure uploads; Integrate using APIs, webhooks, and scheduled file transfers; Support incremental loads, historical reprocessing, and corrections; Handle source-system variability, authentication, rate limits, and failures.
- Transformation Engine
- Design and implement a configuration-driven transformation engine that maps client input data to internal canonical data models; Define a business-readable rule model for transformations such as: Field mapping and renaming; VAT-relevant classification and enrichment; Aggregation, splitting, and restructuring of transactional data; Build guardrails that prevent invalid or unsafe configurations; Support versioning, activation dates, and rollback of transformation rules; Enable rule changes without redeploying code.
- Business Enablement & Tooling
- Work with product and domain teams to design UIs, schemas, or configuration formats that business users can safely manage; Ensure transformation rules are transparent, explainable, and testable by non-engineers; Support sandboxing, previews, or test runs of rule changes before production use.
- Loading, Validation & Auditability
- Load transformed data into downstream systems used for VAT calculation and reporting; Implement validation, reconciliation, and consistency checks at each ETL stage; Ensure full traceability from output records to: Applied transformation rules; Rule versions and effective dates; Support audits, corrections, and historical reprocessing.
- Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with VAT specialists to translate tax logic into configurable data rules; Partner with product, operations, and client-facing teams during onboarding and ongoing changes; Contribute to data model evolution as new jurisdictions, products, and edge cases are introduced; Improve performance, scalability, and maintainability of the ETL platform.
- Proven experience building end-to-end ETL systems in production.
- Experience designing configuration-driven or rules-based data transformation engines.
- Strong understanding of structured transactional data.
- Excellent SQL skills and experience with relational data models.
- Experience integrating with third-party systems via APIs and file-based interfaces.
- Ability to design abstractions that balance business flexibility with technical safety.
- Strong focus on data quality, edge cases, and auditability.
- Experience building internal tools for non-technical users.
- Exposure to financial, accounting, invoicing, or tax data.
- Experience with rules engines, decision tables, or DSLs.
- Familiarity with cloud application environments (e.g. AWS).
- Experience working in regulated or compliance-driven domains.
- Understanding of VAT or tax reporting concepts (advantageous, not required).
- Ownership of a core ETL and transformation rules platform.
- The opportunity to enable business teams to directly control data logic safely.
- High-impact work at the intersection of engineering, product, and tax expertise.
- A growing international SaaS environment with deep technical and domain challenges.
- Competitive salary and benefits, with scope to grow as the company scales.
- The opportunity to join an exciting and rapidly growing fintech company with a global footprint.
- A competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package.
- Professional growth and development opportunities in an international setting.
- A collaborative and innovative work environment.
