We are recruiting for an experienced MIG / MAG Welder Fabricator to join an established engineering and fabrication company based in Oldham. The successful candidate will be responsible for high-quality welding and fabrication of steel components, with a particular focus on full-penetration butt welds using the MAG welding process. This position is ideally suited to a skilled welder with experience in heavy engineering, structural steelwork or general steel fabrication who can work independently and consistently produce high-standard welds. Key Responsibilities * Carry out MIG and MAG welding on mild steel and carbon steel components. * Perform full-penetration butt welds using the MAG welding process. * Complete multi-run, fillet and butt welds to the required specifications. * Fabricate and assemble steel components from engineering drawings. * Prepare materials and joints for welding, including grinding, cutting and weld preparation. * Maintain high standards of weld quality, accuracy and consistency. * Inspect completed welds and identify potential defects. * Operate workshop fabrication equipment safely and efficiently. * Work independently and alongside other experienced fabricators and welders. Essential Requirements * Proven experience in MIG / MAG welding. * Ability to carry out full-penetration butt welds using MAG welding. * Previous experience in steel fabrication or a similar engineering environment. * Confident completing multi-run and fillet welds. * Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. * Good understanding of weld preparation and fabrication techniques. * Ability to work independently while maintaining high quality standards. Desirable Experience * Heavy steel fabrication or structural steelwork. * Welding thicker steel sections and plate. * Coded welding qualifications or previous welding test experience. * Experience working to high-quality engineering standards. TIG welding and pipework experience are not required for this position. Additional Information Candidates should be prepared to undertake a practical welding test to demonstrate their MIG / MAG welding ability, particularly full-penetration butt welding. Candidates attending a welding test will need appropriate safety boots and a welding screen.
