As demand for our Out of Hours (OOH) service continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our dedicated Norwich Night Vet (NNV) team and help us continue delivering exceptional patient care when it matters most. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys a fast-paced and varied caseload, excellent teamwork, and providing vital support during the crucial early evening hours.

We currently provide OOH to 26 practices in the Norfolk area and are looking for an RVN who enjoys working at a fast pace and can cope in a stressful emergency environment. You will work as part of our supportive and skilled night team, providing high standards of care to OOH patients and liaising with clients and our user practices across the region. From hands-on inpatient care to helping with surgical procedures, you will play an essential role in keeping our service running smoothly.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing hands-on nursing care to OOH inpatients
  • Supporting veterinary surgeons with treatments and surgery
  • Handling phone queries and giving advice to OOH clients
  • Admitting patients transferred from our 23 user practices
  • Supporting smooth transitions from day to night teams

This role is vital in bridging the afternoon-to-night shift gap, helping manage the increasing demand on our night team and ensuring seamless, compassionate care throughout the evening.

Work Schedule:

This role follows a repeating 4-week rota:

  • Week 1: Thursday 6:00 pm-1:00 am, Friday 4:00 pm-11:00 pm, Saturday 4:00 pm-1:00 am, Sunday 4:00 pm-1:00 am
  • Week 2: Friday 4:00 pm-11:00 pm
  • Week 3: Thursday 6:00 pm-1:00 am, Friday 4:00 pm-11:00 pm, Saturday 4:00 pm-1:00 am, Sunday 4:00 pm-1:00 am
  • Week 4: Friday 4:00 pm-11:00 pm

About the Practice:

Our hospital-status practice is equipped with cutting-edge facilities, including a brand new CT scanner, a dedicated dental suite, four operating theatres, and ISFM gold-standard cat kennels. We also offer orthopaedics, cardiology, ultrasonography, physiotherapy and hydrotherapy, alongside a luxury veterinary-led cattery. Just 15 minutes from the historic city of Norwich and under an hour from some of the UK’s best beaches, our Taverham and Costessey practices provide a peaceful setting to work and unwind.

What We’re Looking For:

We’re seeking a Registered Veterinary Nurse who thrives in a collaborative environment and can handle the variety and urgency of evening OOH work. You will need:

  • Strong nursing skills and confidence in inpatient care
  • Clear communication with clients and teammates
  • A calm, compassionate manner
  • Experience in OOH or emergency work (desirable but not essential)
