About the role: Part‑time Dispenser (NVQ Level 2/3) at Ryeland Surgery, 15 hours per week (Mon & Thu 07:30‑15:30). Responsible for processing prescriptions, supporting the dispensary supervisor, and ensuring high‑level service.
Main Duties: Our dispensary plays a key part in looking after our patients, ensuring medications are prepared safely, accurately and on time.
- Dispensing and checking medication in line with legal and practice standards
- Helping patients with prescription queries and collecting charges
- Processing repeats and keeping accurate electronic records
- Supporting stock control, ordering, and rotation
- Maintaining a safe, tidy dispensary and following SOPs
- Working closely with GPs, nurses, and reception teams
Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for checking all medicines dispensed, ensuring no discrepancies.
- Dispense medicines to the entitled population safely and accurately.
- Collect prescription charges following protocol.
- Maintain stock levels and liaise with lead dispenser for reordering.
- Receive and store supplies following policy, maintain cold chain where applicable.
- Ensure controlled drugs dispensed per policy.
- Dispose of returned/out‑of‑date medicines safely.
- Process all repeat prescriptions within agreed timeframe.
- Provide patients with advice on prescription matters.
- Process prescription requests via email, phone, fax, face‑to‑face and online.
- Process Dossett boxes.
- Assist Supervisor with monthly returns.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Maintain accurate records, coding entries appropriately.
Qualifications:
- NVQ Level 2/3 – qualified dispenser.
- GCSE (English & Maths) grade C or above.
- Experience working in a dispensary and primary care.
Experience & Skills:
- Broad knowledge of General Practice.
- Experience working with patients.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Clear, polite telephone manner.
- Competent with Office and Outlook.
