The Plumber is responsible for the plumbing, gas repair and maintenance duties of public buildings under the general supervision of the Superintendent of Buildings or their designee. This position is included under the Laborers International Union of North America (LiUNA), Public Union Employee Local 1144A.
Essential Functions

- Perform the installation, repair and maintenance of water, plumbing and heating systems.
- Perform the installation and repair of hot and cold water, oil, steam or gas pipes and necessary connections.
- Perform assignments in such a manner so as not to interrupt the classroom/office environment
- Work in a safe manner with personal safety and the safety of others as the number one priority
- Recommend supplies, equipment and materials for stock
- Assist supervisory personnel in the management of records and logs for all public buildings
- Demonstrate knowledge of repair and installation of fixtures, pumps, motors, heaters, boilers, drains, piping, water supply fixtures, and sewer problems
- Report all unsafe conditions, equipment, etc. to supervisor
- Maintain safe working environment while working in schools
- Help organize a plan for preventative maintenance
- Comply with all school board policies and regulations
- Manual physical labor, lifting, and moving materials, furniture, equipment, and supplies
- Maintain vehicles, equipment, tools, and shop area in operable, safe attractive status.
- Account for supplies, materials, and equipment as required
- Maintain facilities security
- Carry out assignments and instruction from supervisor(s) in a competent and efficient manner
Education, Training, and Experience
Requires a High School diploma or equivalent; Class D Motor Vehicle Driver’s license; Journeyman Plumber’s License as issued by the Commonwealth; five to seven (5-7) years related prior work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Ability to read blueprints, schematics, work plans.
Hourly
1144A Grade VII: $40.75 – $48.04 per hour, 40 hours per week, non-exempt
