Overview
Taunton Brewhouse is seeking a highly organized and proactive Building and Services Co-Ordinator to work alongside the Technical and Building Manager to ensure the safe, efficient, and smooth running of our theatre.
The Building and Services Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the built environment of the theatre and its IT services. The post-holder will provide building expertise and liaise with contractors commissioned to carry out specific projects and work with volunteers and alongside a team of technicians who are line managed by the Technical and Building Manager. The post-holder will need to plan and organise the efficient, safe, and economical use of people and resources, within current legislation.
Situated on the banks of the River Tone in the county town of Somerset, Taunton Brewhouse hosts touring performances, annual in-house productions, participatory activities for all ages, and supports emerging talent through its artist development studio programme. We welcome around 80,000 visitors per year to our main auditorium (352 seats), studio theatre (60 seats), creative hub, bar and café. Taunton Brewhouse is primarily a busy receiving house with multiple one-night events per week.
The successful candidate will be collaborative and solutions-focused, with experience in buildings, services and facilities maintenance, thriving in a busy environment, and committed to supporting excellent creative work. The role has development potential to grow in the future. Working hours may include evenings and weekends at times.

Salary: £27,000 – £28,000 Dependent on experience
Responsibilities
- Overarching Responsibilities: Day-to-day responsibility for premises and staff security and health and safety.
- Policies and procedures: Fully conversant with and help to shape relevant policies and procedures and ensure these procedures are communicated effectively to users of the building and always adhered to.
- Sustainable practices: Work with the Technical and Building Manager and, as appropriate, with the senior management team to embed sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.
- KPI and monitoring: Contribute to the development of KPI’s and targets for areas of responsibility and monitor performance to continually improve the facility and service quality.
- People: Liaise with and monitor the performance of building project contractors. When volunteers are involved in internal projects, ensure they are appropriately qualified, trained and supervised.
- Safety training: Ensure maintenance work carried out by volunteers and staff complies with health and safety policies and legislation. Deliver training for volunteers in the use of equipment and safe practice. Ensure staff or volunteers using equipment are trained and follow safe working practices.
- Compliance: Ensure contractors, staff, equipment and premises comply with health and safety regulations, current legislation, licensing requirements and industry standards.
- Risk assessments: Ensure building and health and safety risk assessments are completed, updated, electronically filed, adhered to, and available to relevant parties.
- Fire safety: Ensure building and its contents comply with fire regulations. Liaise with alarm and security companies and ensure equipment is maintained, tested and records kept electronically (including annual PAT testing, regular fire equipment and weekly alarm tests).
- Fire wardens: Ensure the theatre has enough staff trained as fire wardens on duty at any given time, with clear evacuation procedures and annual/biannual training.
- Reporting: Report health and safety issues immediately to the Executive Director or Chair in their absence and assist in remedial actions.
- Building: Liaise with the Executive Director, Technical Manager, Somerset Council and Taunton Town Council on building matters and emergencies, obtain approvals, and maintain records of actions and decisions. Set up record systems.
- Construction management: Supervise building work and ensure environmental disposal of building waste.
- Site access: Set up systems for visiting workers to ensure contractors on site are clearly identified and recorded on entry and exit.
- Equipment: Maintain and repair equipment or arrange repairs; organise removal of equipment and furniture as needed for clients, staff and volunteers.
- Key Holding: Deputy main key-holder with responsibility for recording and issuing internal key allocations to staff as appropriate.
- Major Projects: Assume responsibility as project coordinator on major building projects, working with the Senior Management Team, Executive Director and external contractors. Work with the Executive Director, Technical and Building Manager and fundraising team to ensure data and quotes are available and accurate for major projects.
- IT: Responsible for ordering and coordinating the maintenance and repair of all IT equipment and services. Administer IT user access to TTA’s SharePoint/intranet, ensuring user information and permissions are up to date and secure. Attend meetings with colleagues, service providers and visiting companies as appropriate.
- Finance: Responsible for delivering the theatre’s buildings, services, IT and safety budgets. Oversee expenditure to cover maintenance, equipment replacement and new purchases (within budget), always obtaining multiple quotes. Keep records of all financial transactions and reporting as per the organisation’s requirements.
- Other: Devise a Green Operations Policy to lessen the organisation’s environmental impact. Participate in the life of the arts centre and contribute to education and community engagement programmes. Carry out administrative work related to tasks and undertake other duties as reasonably required.
Qualifications and skills
