World Class Defence Organisation based in Bolton is currently looking to recruit a Manufacturing Project Manager / Bid Lead subcontractor on an initial 12 month contract. The role will be a hybrid role of working from home and onsite (2 days per week).

Contract Details

  • Rate: £33 per hour
  • Location: Bolton
  • Hybrid / Remote working: 2 days per week onsite
  • Contract: 37 Hours per week
  • Overtime: Hours worked over 37 hours per week will be calculated at 'time and a quarter'
  • Duration: 12 Months (initially and then ongoing and long-term thereafter)
  • IR35 status: Inside IR35 (Umbrella)

Responsibilities

  • Generation of Manufacturing Bids for Industrial Transfer packages of work, ensuring they are competitive, compliant and in line with all business and commercial criteria.
  • Deliver Industrial Transfer projects or sub‑projects, ensuring they are delivered to agreed time, budget and quality; regularly reviewing and reporting on progress and, where necessary, intervening to resolve issues so that the project is delivered to plan.
  • Ensure accurate reporting of progress against all aspects of project performance and interpret requirements back to manufacturing.
  • Lead the Manufacturing Offload Process, supporting Manufacturing Functions and project teams in identifying Offload Opportunities; work closely with Procurement Functions (ISP‑S and MEP) to identify suitable Offload suppliers.
  • Generate Business Cases to support the Offload Opportunities and ensure governance to the process is adhered to.
  • Lead the implementation of Manufacturing Industrial Policy / Strategy, ensuring it aligns with New Business Pipelines and Technology Roadmaps.
  • Manage stakeholder interfaces, including internal customers, and ensure accurate reporting of progress against all aspects of project performance.
  • Support the New Business Team in identifying new business opportunities and developing approaches to winning the business.
  • Participate in developing, maintaining and modifying manufacturing processes and procedures in assigned areas in accordance with relevant standards, best practice and evolving needs.
  • Collect, summarise and present information or data, carrying out pre‑defined analyses and ensuring completeness and accuracy, and provide it to others for use in decision‑making.
  • Actively participate in Functional & Strategic Change activities to support best practice and functional excellence.
  • Develop and maintain key relationships with internal customers and key subcontractors.
  • Ensure manufacturing is a key stakeholder in the generation of bid data throughout the life cycle and is prepared to manage and deliver competitive and compliant bid proposals.
  • Ensure effective process governance in assigned areas, ensuring projects adhere to all policies and procedures, promote a culture of best practice sharing and knowledge exploitation, and contribute to relevant overall bidding activities.

Skillset / Experience

  • Experienced Project Manager with a proven track record in the delivery of fixed‑cost programmes, of significant value, within a matrix organisation.
  • Experience within an engineering or production environment is preferred.
  • Experience communicating at a high level and interfacing with key stakeholders to respond to complex situations and effectively influence the function and wider business.
  • Experience applying Project Management skills at an assistant level in a relevant business environment.
  • Experience working on complex bids, with a proven record of accomplishment in the generation of costed proposals/manufacturing bids.
  • Commercially astute in working with cost models to generate costings for direct/in directs, materials and other costs associated with manufacturing of products.
  • Strong presentation skills as bid packs / cost brochures are generated using PowerPoint and presented to the Senior Management Team for approval.
  • Ability to articulate theory applied to a costing approach and ensure evidence is collated for audit purposes.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to build strong relationships with stakeholders and work within multi‑functional teams.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and as part of a team, with a proactive approach.
  • Planning & Scheduling: developing detailed project plans, schedules and milestones.
  • Regulatory Compliance: ensuring adherence to aerospace industry regulations and standards.
  • Project Management Toolsets: SAP/Primavera P6.
