Certain Advantage are hiring for a buyer on an initial 3-month Fixed Term Contract basis, based on site in Derby. The role will assist the Supply Chain & Procurement team in coordinating material requirements, ensuring availability in line with business needs, company processes, and industry standards.
Your responsibilities:
- Raise and manage purchase orders for direct and indirect materials and services, with a focus on manufacturing / engineering categories
- Liaise with internal teams and suppliers to ensure materials are sourced in line with project and production requirements
- Support supplier negotiations to achieve competitive pricing and value for the business
- Build and maintain good working relationships with suppliers to support performance and reliability
- Monitor supplier delivery performance and follow up on late or outstanding orders to ensure on-time delivery
- Work closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve material issues and respond to changing demand
- Assist in managing inventory levels, including monitoring stock, reducing obsolete items, and supporting appropriate safety stock levels
- Help resolve invoice queries in a timely manner
- Provide support on ad hoc tasks and projects as required
The individual:
- Previous experience in a purchasing or buying role, ideally within a manufacturing or engineering environment
- Basic negotiation skills with the ability to support cost-saving initiatives
- Experience working with suppliers and maintaining effective relationships
- Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems for purchasing and inventory management
- Good communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams
- Organised, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
