Certain Advantage are hiring for a buyer on an initial 3-month Fixed Term Contract basis, based on site in Derby.
Your responsibilities:
- Raise and manage purchase orders for direct and indirect materials and services, with a focus on manufacturing / engineering categories.
- Liaise with internal teams and suppliers to ensure materials are sourced in line with project and production requirements.
- Support supplier negotiations to achieve competitive pricing and value for the business.
- Build and maintain good working relationships with suppliers to support performance and reliability.
- Monitor supplier delivery performance and follow up on late or outstanding orders to ensure on‑time delivery.
- Work closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve material issues and respond to changing demand.
- Assist in managing inventory levels, including monitoring stock, reducing obsolete items, and supporting appropriate safety stock levels.
- Help resolve invoice queries in a timely manner.
- Provide support on ad hoc tasks and projects as required.
The individual:
- Previous experience in a purchasing or buying role, ideally within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Basic negotiation skills with the ability to support cost‑saving initiatives.
- Experience working with suppliers and maintaining effective relationships.
- Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems for purchasing and inventory management.
- Good communication skills and ability to work with cross‑functional teams.
- Organised, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
