We are seeking an experienced temporary volunteer coordinator to provide short-term operational coordination of our Letchworth based clients established volunteering programme. This role will ensure continuity, maintain volunteer engagement, and support programme delivery while a wider volunteering strategy review is underway. The organisation has an active and well-established volunteer base of approximately 120 volunteers operating across multiple sites and service areas. This is a part-time role for approximately 20 hours a week; the hours can be made up of 3 full days or spread over 4 to 5 days. The assignment is for 12 weeks and will be site-based in Letchworth.
Role Purpose
To oversee the day-to-day coordination, administration, and support of the volunteering programme, ensuring volunteers remain effectively deployed, supported, and engaged across all operational areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the daily operation of the organisation's volunteer communications and scheduling platform
- Maintain and update volunteer rotas
- Liaise with operational teams, to ensure volunteer coverage meets service requirements
- Process volunteer expense claims in accordance with organisational procedures
- Manage incoming volunteering enquiries
- Promote new volunteering opportunities using agreed channels
- Co-ordinate recruitment, vetting, and onboarding of new volunteers in line with organisational policy
- Maintain regular communication with volunteers
- Provide guidance and support to ensure a positive volunteer experience
- Respond to queries and escalation of welfare or operational issues as required
Candidate Requirements
- Demonstrable experience managing or coordinating volunteer programmes or similar people-based services
- Strong administrative and organisational skills
- Experience managing rotas and coordinating multiple service areas
- Excellent engagement and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively
- Successful candidate must be confident managing established volunteer groups with minimal supervision
- The role requires strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity when working with volunteers from diverse backgrounds
- Flexibility may be required to occasionally support evening or weekend activity
