As Payroll Manager, you will lead the accurate processing and administration of payroll and pensions across the business. This is a hands-on role where your expertise and attention to detail will be essential. You will work closely with the Director of Personnel and Finance Manager to deliver a seamless, compliant, and efficient payroll service.
Responsibilities
- Manage the full monthly payroll cycle for all employees
- Process salary payments, P45 information, student loans, NI, and back payments
- Ensure accurate processing and verification of monthly timesheets
- Coordinate and distribute payslips to employees
- Complete annual HMRC submissions and ensure compliance with all payroll regulations
- Support the Finance Manager with Pension End of Year Certificates and submissions to TPS and LGPS
- Prepare and submit re-employment, retirement, and other pension-related forms
- Ensure accurate employee and employer pension contributions and monthly deductions
- Maintain staff records for Private Health Schemes
- Keep up to date with payroll legislation and HMRC regulations, advising on best practice and upcoming changes
Skills & Experience
- Professional payroll qualification (e.g. CIPP) or equivalent
- Proven experience operating at a senior payroll level
- Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
- Extensive experience managing end-to-end payroll for a large workforce
- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret and apply legislation confidently
