An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Manager – Capital Delivery to join our client, a large acute healthcare organisation delivering a complex, multi‑year capital estates programme. Working as part of a well‑established Capital Projects team, you will manage the delivery of a diverse portfolio of estates projects ranging from minor works and backlog maintenance to major capital schemes valued between £10m and £50m. These projects form part of a wider programme of £200m–£300m investment over the next five years. This is a high‑profile role with significant exposure to senior stakeholders and plays a vital role in ensuring capital investment supports wider clinical and organisational transformation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end‑to‑end delivery of multiple estates capital projects across acute hospital environments, from business case development through to completion and handover.
- Support delivery of the wider Capital Investment Programme, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and to agreed quality standards.
- Apply robust programme and project management methodologies, including management of risk, issues, costs, quality and benefits.
- Lead and manage stakeholder engagement with clinical teams, senior managers, executives and external partners.
- Manage procurement and delivery strategies, including the appointment and management of consultants, contractors and external advisers, in line with public‑sector procurement regulations.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of capital policies, standards and governance frameworks.
- Ensure full compliance with health and safety legislation, statutory requirements and best practice in healthcare estates delivery.
- Support financial planning and monitoring, ensuring business cases are robust and aligned with organisational and system‑wide affordability.
- Contribute to long‑term estates and capital planning across the wider healthcare system.
About You
You will be a highly capable estates or capital project professional with a proven track record of delivering complex infrastructure programmes in healthcare or similarly complex, regulated environments. Degree‑level qualification (or equivalent experience) in construction, estates, healthcare planning or the built environment. Substantial experience delivering complex capital projects or programmes. Strong knowledge of public‑sector construction procurement and delivery models (e.g. frameworks, partnering, PFI, P22). Excellent stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills. Experience managing external consultants and contractors. Confident user of project management and reporting tools (e.g. MS Project, Excel, SharePoint, CAD).
