If you enjoy variety, love building relationships with clients, and want to be part of a supportive team that genuinely invests in its people, this one is worth a look. My client is looking for someone with external payroll and client experience.

What They’re Looking for in a Payroll Specialist

This role suits someone who’s confident managing multiple payrolls, thrives in a fast‑paced environment, and enjoys interacting with clients. You’ll be a great fit if you have:

  • Ideally CIPP qualification (or working towards it)
  • 3–5 years’ UK payroll experience
  • External payroll and client experience
  • Experience within an accountancy practice or bureau (big advantage but not essential)
  • Strong IT skills and quick to pick up new systems
  • Excellent organisation and the ability to juggle several deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • A proactive, positive approach — someone who just gets stuck in
  • A team mindset but also very capable of working independently
What You’ll Be Doing as Payroll Specialist

This is a genuinely varied role, covering:

  • Managing your own portfolio of payroll clients
  • Running payrolls weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually
  • Processing starters, leavers, statutory payments, pensions, RTI submissions
  • Setting up and closing PAYE schemes
  • Acting as the main point of contact with HMRC
  • Handling auto‑enrolment and pension uploads
  • Ensuring all FPS/EPS submissions meet deadlines
  • Producing P45s, P60s and all relevant documentation
  • Supporting clients with day‑to‑day payroll queries
  • Bringing your expertise to the wider payroll team when needed

It’s a role where you’ll build great relationships, make a real impact, and become a go‑to person internally.

This employer genuinely looks after their people. Benefits include:

  • Hybrid after probation (3 office / 2 home) & flexible hours after successful completion of your probationary period
  • EAP with 24/7 GP + wellbeing/coaching support
  • Life assurance, Cycle to Work, bus pass schemes & long‑service awards
  • Exposure to a wide range of clients
  • Opportunities to broaden your technical knowledge
  • Access to a Management Development Programme if you’re looking to step up
