Location: Birmingham. This is a fully on site role.

Hours: Hours will vary in this role. Standard hours are 9am to 5pm. There may be times where you start later and finish later. This may be twice a month and hours can be banked if you go over standard working hours.

Role Purpose

This is a very exciting time to join this company as The People & Culture (HR) Manager as they are in a period of huge growth. You will be accountable for leading the full HR function within the Distribution Centre, ensuring operational excellence across HR services while actively contributing to the site’s strategic objectives. The role partners closely with Site Leadership to build a compliant, high-performing, and engaged workforce, embedding a strong people-focused culture that supports business performance and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • HR Operations & Employee Lifecycle
    • Lead the delivery of comprehensive HR, personnel, and payroll services for all employees within the Distribution Centre.
    • Ensure accurate working time records, absence management, and leave administration in line with labour law and company policy.
    • Oversee accurate entry, maintenance, and audit of all employee data within HRIS and payroll systems.
    • Maintain complete, compliant, and up-to-date personnel files and employment documentation.
    • Prepare, issue, and manage employment contracts, contract variations, addendums, and formal HR correspondence.
    • Ensure HR processes are consistently applied across the site in line with internal standards and external legislation.
  • HR Reporting, Analytics & Compliance
    • Produce regular HR reports, KPIs, dashboards, and workforce analytics to support operational and strategic decision-making.
    • Prepare HR data, insights, and presentations for Site Leadership and senior stakeholders.
    • Create, review, update, and implement HR policies, procedures, handbooks, and governance documentation.
    • Ensure full compliance with labour law, GDPR, occupational health & safety regulations, internal policies, and company standards.
    • Take responsibility for the legal and formal compliance of HR activities and employment practices.
    • Support audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews relating to people, employment, and compliance.
    • Actively promote and protect the organisation’s employer brand and employee experience.
  • Recruitment & Talent Acquisition
    • Manage end-to-end recruitment processes aligned to workforce planning and business needs.
    • Lead proactive sourcing, screening, interviewing, and selection across operational, specialist, and management roles.
    • Write, publish, and manage job advertisements across multiple platforms and recruitment channels.
    • Develop and continuously improve recruitment procedures and related HR documentation.
    • Monitor recruitment KPIs, market trends, and candidate availability; implement strategies to expand talent pipelines.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners, including recruitment agencies, outsourcing providers, job centres, universities, and training institutions.
    • Prepare recruitment analytics, reports, and labour market insights for leadership teams.
  • People Development, Culture & Engagement
    • Create conditions that support employee development, training, succession planning, and upskilling across the Distribution Centre.
    • Partner with leaders and managers to build high-performing teams and strengthen leadership capability.
    • Support the development and embedding of a culture of continuous improvement, engagement, accountability, and respect.
    • Contribute to HR initiatives that promote wellbeing, inclusion, and a positive workplace culture.
    • Ensure HR KPIs are met through close collaboration with managers and proactive HR leadership.
    • Support performance management, talent development, and engagement initiatives aligned with business strategy.
  • HR Governance, Leadership & External Representation
    • Act as the senior HR representative at site leadership level, contributing to strategic planning and organisational initiatives.
    • Support and contribute to the wider People & Culture strategy and ongoing transformation initiatives.
    • Provide direct line management, coaching, and performance oversight for two members of the HR team, ensuring high standards of HR service delivery.
    • Represent HR in interactions with external institutions, employment bodies, regulatory authorities, and partner organisations.
    • Ensure consistent interpretation and application of labour law and HR policy across all departments.
    • Participate in leadership forums and projects that shape the future direction of the Distribution Centre.
    • Support senior management in complex employee relations matters and organisational change.
  • Health, Safety & General Responsibilities
    • Ensure HR practices actively support occupational health, safety, and wellbeing initiatives.
    • Adhere to and promote all occupational health, safety, and fire safety regulations.
    • Champion a safe, inclusive, and respectful working environment.
    • Contribute to the ongoing development of HR objectives in alignment with the company’s strategic direction and site goals.

Qualifications: CIPD Level 5 to 7
