An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Accounts Assistant to join an award-winning, fast-growing business with a genuinely positive culture and strong team values. This is a newly created role within a well-established finance function, designed to support the Finance Manager and provide hands-on oversight across day-to-day accounting activity, while also acting as a dependable point of support for two Accounts Assistants.
We are looking for someone practically experienced, confident in transaction-led finance and comfortable taking responsibility, without needing a formal "senior" title or fast-tracked hierarchy progression.
The Role: What You'll Be Doing
- Posting sales invoices, credit notes and purchase invoices
- Processing and managing overhead invoices
- Setting up new customers and suppliers (following internal authorisation)
- Running D&B checks
- Raising ad-hoc monthly sales invoices
- Completing monthly bank reconciliations
- Investigating and resolving reconciliation differences
- Processing authorised repayments
- Monitoring and managing the accounts inbox and resolving queries
- Supporting month-end processes, including first-draft reporting
- Acting as a go-to support for Accounts Assistants where issues arise
- Assisting with audit sampling and supporting documentation
What We're Asking For:
- Previous experience as an Accounts Assistant or in a similar bookkeeping-focused role
- Solid understanding of sales ledger, purchase ledger and nominal accounts
- Experience with bank reconciliations and assisting with month-end routines
- Ability to investigate discrepancies logically and thoroughly
- Confident using accounting systems (Sage 200 ideal but not essential)
- Strong Excel skills, including working with data (VLOOKUP-level competence desirable)
