We are supporting a well‑established, privately owned media and information business with the confidential appointment of a new Chief Financial Officer. Reporting directly to the CEO, the CFO will play a critical role in strengthening financial leadership, governance and confidence across the group. This is a senior appointment requiring sound judgement, discretion and credibility, with the ability to operate comfortably at both strategic and detailed levels.
The successful candidate will take full accountability for the finance function, acting as a trusted adviser to the CEO and Board while remaining hands‑on across core financial operations.
Key responsibilities- Act as principal finance partner to the CEO and Board, providing clear insight, challenge and support
- Take ownership of financial control, reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cashflow management
- Strengthen financial governance, controls and reporting frameworks to ensure clarity and robustness
- Oversee audit, statutory reporting, tax and external advisers
- Provide commercially focused analysis to support informed decision‑making across the business
- Lead, develop and mentor the finance team, building capability and resilience
- Support change and improvement initiatives with professionalism and discretion
- Proven experience as a CFO, Finance Director or equivalent senior finance leader, with full accountability for the finance function
- Background in privately owned, board‑led organisations
- Experience operating in complex, reputation‑sensitive or stakeholder‑exposed environments, such as media, information, publishing or services‑led businesses
- Strong technical finance capability across financial control, statutory reporting, audit and tax
- Commercially astute, with the ability to translate financial data into clear, actionable insight
- Confident and credible with CEOs, Boards, non‑executive directors and external advisers
- Comfortable operating at both strategic and detailed levels, bringing clarity, grip and sound judgement
- Able to work with discretion and professionalism in sensitive or change environments
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Salary circa £150,000
