Company Description

With over 150 years of experience, ASR Group takes sugar cane from the field to the table, excelling in every aspect of the cane sugar process. We are the largest vertically integrated cane sugar refiner globally, with nine refineries across five countries capable of producing over six million tonnes of sugar. We also operate sugar mills in the US, Mexico, and Belize, and our reach extends to more than 40 countries, serving markets in the Americas, Caribbean, Europe, Middle East, India, and Asia. Our brands lead in their markets, and we sell sugars, sweeteners, and syrups across various channels, including grocery, food service, industrial, and pharmaceutical.

Overview

The Quality Technologist acts as the quality point of contact within the refinery, reporting on daily issues, identifying deviations and trends, and participating in site-wide action groups. The role involves initiating quality improvements, supporting the Quality Assurance Manager, and embedding quality practices within the Thames site. The successful candidate will work closely with various factory teams and customer interfaces.

Roles & Responsibilities

  1. Review daily Quality information and attend operation meetings as the quality representative.
  2. Complete daily reports with accurate and factual information.
  3. Manage incidents, including quick risk assessments related to quality and food safety issues.
  4. Drive improvements in Food Safety and Quality Systems.
  5. Participate in internal audits, traceability exercises, and GFSI and third-party audits.
  6. Complete quality sign-offs and participate in site trials.
  7. Develop and ensure Food Safety work permits are in place for relevant works.
  8. Conduct GMP audits and Gemba walks as scheduled.
  9. Maintain an up-to-date HACCP plan and support the HACCP team.
  10. Manage customer relations, including queries and audit findings/CAPAs.
  11. Promote continuous improvements in the site’s quality culture.

Work Experience

Experience in a factory-facing quality role, preferably in the sugar or food industry. Exposure to customer interfaces, either as a supplier or retailer, is desirable.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or a related discipline, or equivalent.
