The Senior Electrical Engineer is the Duty Holder for Plaistow and Thames refinery sites. They are accountable for the plant’s electrical infrastructure up to 11KV, responsible for planning the upgrade and maintenance of the medium and low voltage networks to improve the efficiency and reliability of the refining process equipment. This role includes managing a team and offering practical assistance with electrical issues on site, as well as training and mentoring engineers to become Senior Authorised Persons in Medium Voltage switching including power generation.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Remain aware of current legislation and statutory duties, ensuring the business achieves compliance (with necessary audits), generating and maintaining company standards as required.
- Develop, refine and implement maintenance strategies for electrical engineering using recognised methodologies, such as RCA and FMEA. Set best practices and develop plans for implementation of these as identified to increase reliability and decrease life cycle costs. Audit these maintenance strategies to ensure optimum plant performance.
- Ensure the medium voltage maintenance plan of electrical equipment such as transformers, turbines and switchgear is completed.
- Guide and assist the electrical engineers to develop achievable schedules.
- Witness sample inspections & maintenance to ensure quality control.
- Provide hands-on practical fault assistance, including power generation support, to the electrical maintenance team as required.
- Perform Gap analysis, identify required electrical equipment and provide site operations with guidance on long-term capital investments for electrical distribution centres, transformers, MV/LV switchgear, motors, VFD’s, MCCs, etc. to ensure plant safety and reliability.
- Manage Projects for electrical infrastructure projects up to £1M from initial concept through to final commissioning ensuring budgets and schedules are kept to agreed limits.
- Provide on-site training for relevant engineering personnel on the electrical network up to 11KV in switching, turbine operation and permit issuing, then subsequent authorisation.
- Audit the competency of the procedures for the medium voltage electrical network with on-site engineering staff and provide refresher training as required, whilst maintaining training records/documentation.
- Assess competency for relevant personnel who require access to LV substations/MCCs/Drives rooms to perform fault finding, resets and isolations.
ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES)
- Knowledge of PLCs, variable frequency drives and automation to enable fault diagnosis.
- A deep conceptual understanding of electrical systems up to 11KV including power generation.
- Experience supervising/managing electrical skilled personnel is required.
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college/university.
