Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Project Engineer - Vehicle Exteriors to be based at customer site in Woking. Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.

The Role: As a Body engineering project engineer you will be confronted with technical challenges and will be responsible for attending meetings/reviews and addressing issues relevant to your commodity to best serve your customer groups such as Styling, SQA, Purchasing and Project Management teams as well as the end user, or customer. This role offers great exposure to other areas of the business and at various levels through and up to Executive Director level.

Area of Responsibility:

  • Design and development experience on automotive products, ideally exterior, closures including sealing, window lift and door opening systems.
  • Working knowledge of engineering materials used in closures systems.
  • Good understanding of latest Automotive manufacture processes, feasibility and technology.
  • Robust understanding of the complete product lifecycle (concept -> delivery).
  • CAD knowledge for assembly and part interrogation.
  • Design experience advantageous.
  • Good understanding of GD&T and tolerance analysis.
  • Knowledge of development tools, such as DFMEA and DVP.
  • Knowledge and proven use of Problem Solving Techniques.
  • Quality concerns/issues: Analysis, containment, Root Cause analysis, 8D analysis, Countermeasures.
  • VAVE idea generation and implementation.
  • Initiate and support new idea generation avenues, benchmarking, support vehicle line tear down and idea generation.
  • VAVE implementation: Should be able to work towards a cost target and create robust product implementation plans.
  • Represent & Report back into VAVE forums with necessary data, status and mitigation plans as necessary.
  • Ensuring lessons are standardized in Customer specifications for future projects.
  • Conducting proof of concepts, engaging with suppliers, working with cross functional teams.
  • Product development and project management of multiple engineering initiatives, with the specific aim of reducing the cost of the bought out component/assembly.
  • Manage projects within a cross functional team including PD, Purchasing, Quality and Cost Estimating departments.
  • Develop, manage and present detailed timing plans to agreed deadlines.

Knowledge / Experience:

  • Educated to Degree level in suitable Engineering discipline.
  • Knowledge of Body (exterior/closures), Knowledge of interface systems Powertrain, Chassis systems and components is required.
  • Experience with PPAP/PSW.
  • Experience of cost reduction initiatives, tools and techniques desirable.
  • Educated to Engineering Degree level or equivalent.
  • Experience within automotive product development, ideally with responsibility for a range of components.
  • Good general commercial awareness, ideally with some negotiating experience.
  • Self-motivated, with ability to motivate others to achieve personal objectives.
  • Passionate about continuous improvement, especially in context of cost reduction and personal development.
  • Good general knowledge of vehicle/component design and manufacture, inc DFMEA’s, PFMEA’s.
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong interpersonal skills – ability to communicate to all levels of the business including external partners.
  • Awareness of latest manufacturing processes/techniques for a variety of materials and designs.
  • The successful candidate must be a team player and be able to work closely within a small team.
  • Excellent communications skills with ability to present at senior levels of the organisation.
