Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.

The Role:

  • Responsible for building and maintaining test rigs, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) equipment and hardware design.
  • Component/Full System HIL verification & validation projects for design, development, releasing, integration and delivery of state‑of‑the‑art system delivery for Electrical and Electronics Integration.
  • The role involves HIL architecture design, load panel and wiring harness development, and integration of NI‑based HIL platforms to support automated and manual testing across automotive domains.
  • This position would be working within ESS area of Tata Technologies and specifically on vehicle programmes.
  • The fast‑paced development provides a challenging environment suited to an engineer who can quickly develop skills in new areas and lead and drive other engineers within a multidisciplinary/global team.
  • Responsible for HIL simulator design, build & commissioning for Powertrain, Chassis, BMS, Charging Domain for NI‑based test systems.

Area of Responsibility:

  • Specification and implementation of HIL systems for Powertrain, BMS and Charging Domain.
  • Design and implementation of signal and power level HIL.
  • Specification of HIL tests for all Powertrain/BMS/Charging projects.
  • Work closely with team members to support the integration of new and updated plant models for use with HIL systems.
  • HIL facilities maintenance and upgrade work for HIL, including the support for control strategies design, modelling, development and integration for drive line subsystems and attributes; control module validation and implementation on test rigs.
  • Design and build load panels (resistive, inductive, lamp loads, motor simulation).
  • Create wiring harnesses, breakout boxes, and patch panels per ECU pin‑out.
  • Prepare electrical schematics, harness drawings, and connection tables.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation of HIL system hardware and software components.
  • Development of automated test facilities including the capability of fault insertion and diagnostic facilities in support of system integration and verification.
  • Develop new test setup and methodology to help in front‑loading the development activities into early stages of V cycle.
  • Willingness to work in different test environments (HiL, Component, and vehicle setups).
  • Cooperation with our HIL team to ensure best practice is learnt and applied by both teams.
  • Working as part of an integrated multifunctional product team which is responsible for delivering complex projects.

Knowledge / Experience:

  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with HIL system design and commissioning.
  • Experience with NI‑based HIL platforms (PXI /cRIO/VeriStand).
  • Good understanding of ECU pin‑outs, sensors, actuators, and vehicle networks.
  • Experience with hardware and electrical components (Analog & digital electronics, signal conditioning and measurement, relays, loads, power supplies, fuses, and protection circuits, reading and creating electrical schematics).
  • Experience with communication protocols (CAN/LIN/Flexray etc).
  • Hands‑on experience of system targets development and verification.
  • Hands‑on experience in deriving functional test cases and verification methods based on system level requirements.
  • Working knowledge of RESTBus simulation and testing of vehicle networks based on CAN using Vector tools.
  • Working knowledge in configuration management tools used for version controlling of hardware specifications.
  • Experience in LV and HV circuit and wiring harness design and development.
  • Good logical reasoning.
  • Motivation to learn new technologies and employ systems engineering techniques.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with a team.
