The Role: We are seeking a Senior Antenna System Engineer to own the vehicle-level antenna system architecture, performance, and validation for automotive platforms. This role is responsible for end-to-end antenna system definition and integration for GPS/GNSS, DAB, FM/AM, and Satellite Radio (SXM), working closely with internal infotainment, telematics, EMC, and vehicle engineering teams, as well as managing Tier-1 suppliers. The position includes strong ownership of DFMEA and DVP&R activities and close collaboration with radio tuner and antenna amplifier development teams to ensure robust, production-ready RF performance.
Key responsibilities:
- Own the vehicle antenna system architecture across multiple vehicle platforms and programs
- Define system requirements and performance targets for GPS/GNSS, DAB, FM/AM, and SXM antennas
- Specify antenna concepts (roof, glass, shark‑fin, bumper, mirror, etc.) considering styling, vehicle packaging, cost, and manufacturing constraints
- Define interfaces between antennas, antenna amplifiers, cabling, and radio tuners
- Lead vehicle-level antenna integration, placement, grounding, and interaction with BIW, trims, and glass
- Ensure optimal system performance in real-world vehicle environments, including mitigation of detuning, coupling, and noise
- Work closely with radio tuner teams to optimize system sensitivity, selectivity, and robustness
- Lead DFMEA for antenna and RF systems; identify risks, define mitigation strategies, and track closure across development phases
- Own and approve DVP&R / DVP plans for antenna systems at component, subsystem, and vehicle levels
- Review and approve validation results, ensuring compliance with OEM targets and regulatory requirements
- Support DV/PV, EMC, and vehicle-level sign‑off activities
- Act as the technical interface to Tier‑1 suppliers for antennas, amplifiers, and RF components
- Review and approve supplier designs, simulations, DFMEA, DVP results, and change requests
- Drive technical issue resolution with suppliers and internal stakeholders
- Support sourcing decisions and technical evaluations during supplier nomination
- Collaborate with infotainment, telematics, EMC, body engineering, styling, manufacturing, and quality teams
- Participate in system design reviews, vehicle milestones, and program gateways
- Contribute to OEM antenna standards, design guidelines, and lessons learned
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership within the antenna/RF domain
Required skills & experience:
- Extensive experience with automotive antenna systems: GPS/GNSS, DAB, FM/AM, and SXM
- Strong experience working at vehicle system level within an automotive OEM environment
- Proven hands‑on experience with radio tuners and antenna amplifiers, including system matching and performance optimization
- Solid understanding of RF fundamentals, antenna theory, and electromagnetics
- Demonstrated ownership of DFMEA and DVP&R in an automotive product development lifecycle
- Experience with antenna and RF testing: chamber, bench, and vehicle‑level measurements
- Strong capability in interpreting RF performance data and driving system‑level decisions
- Experience managing and technically leading Tier‑1 suppliers
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience defining OEM-level antenna performance requirements and standards
- Knowledge of EMC/EMI and vehicle noise mitigation strategies
- Familiarity with active antenna design, LNAs, filters, and RF front‑end architectures
- Exposure to connected vehicle antennas (LTE/5G, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, V2X)
- Understanding of OEM vehicle development processes (APQP, DV/PV, PPAP, change management)
- Experience supporting global vehicle platforms and multi‑region regulatory requirements
Qualifications & experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, RF Engineering, or a related discipline
- Extensive experience in antenna and RF system engineering, preferably within an automotive OEM
