Role Summary
The Lead Engineer is responsible for leadership of the sub system engineers and is responsible for deliverables for all aspects of defined component(s) / system(s).
Area of Responsibility
This role is responsible for progressing cost reduction proposals through specific gateway.
You will have responsibility for:
- Progressing cost reduction proposals from "Ideation" to "Release" through the Initiative Management System (IMS).
- Evaluation of proposals for initial feasibility.
- Ensuring that the engineering sub-system still delivers its objectives and targets (technical and business).
- Creating and validating (with respective stakeholders) a timeline for each accepted cost saving proposal.
- Progression of proposals through the various gateways. (GW readiness).
- Requires the ability to communicate with all areas of the business to present the case for each proposal to the relevant stakeholders.
- Conduct prototype evaluations in an engineering environment.
- Conduct Line Trial evaluations in a production environment.
- Liaise effectively with Design (Styling) / Purchasing / Suppliers / Manufacturing / Quality / Core Engineering / Finance to drive the proposals to implementation.
- FMEA and DVP creation/update where required (with CORE team).
- Following up actions with owners to ensure progress.
- Publishing minutes from each meeting.
- Ensuring delivery of technical and business objectives.
- Ensuring programme timing objectives are met.
- Communicating team progress to management (escalations).
- Identifying and managing each individual proposal risks / opportunities.
- Ensuring that all issues are addressed and closed off.
Knowledge / Experience
Essential:
- Excellent people & communication skills with the ability to engage and convince at all levels - Face to Face as well as via Email / Phone / Teams is paramount.
- Ability to run multiple proposals in parallel - keeping them all on track.
- Proven project management capability with recent on-time and on-budget delivery in a product development environment.
- Engineering knowledge of multiple Interior components or systems design, function, performance, production, and manufacturing requirements.
- PC literacy, including Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
- Significant experience using engineering tools such as FMEA, structured problem resolution, Issues Management Systems.
- Successful delivery experience within the automotive product development sector.
- Degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
- A resilient and pro-active character is essential to the role as is the ability to remain positive and committed to the role.
Preferred:
- Ability to interrogate CAD data (3DX) and use visualisation tools.
