Due to continued growth, we are recruiting for a Metrology Engineer, based in Halewood, UK. Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, test, and optimize CMM programs using software such as Metrolog, PC-DMIS, or equivalent.
- Perform dimensional inspections on stamped components and assemblies per engineering drawings and GD&T (ASME Y14.5) standards.
- Validate die and tool dimensions for stamping operations.
- Collaborate with tool room and production teams to resolve stamping-related dimensional issues.
Measurement & Reporting
- Generate detailed measurement reports for PPAP, GR&R studies, and customer requirements.
- Interpret and analyze measurement data to identify deviations and support root‑cause investigations.
Support Fixture & Strategy Development
- Design and develop measurement fixtures and jigs for stamped parts.
- Create measurement strategies aligned with RPS (Reference Point System) and industry standards.
- Maintain calibration schedules and verification of all metrology equipment.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on CMM machines and related fixtures.
- Work closely with Quality, Production, and Toolroom teams to resolve measurement‑related issues.
- Train operators on CMM and other metrology equipment for correct usage and basic program optimization.
- Support projects aimed at improving measurement processes and reducing inspection cycle times.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 17025 and customer‑specific requirements.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/manufacturing engineering or related field.
- Experience in metrology or quality engineering, with hands‑on CMM programming experience.
- Strong background in stamping processes and die validation.
- Expertise in GD&T (ASME Y14.5) interpretation and application.
- Proficiency in CMM software (Metrolog, PC‑DMIS, Calypso etc.).
- Familiarity with laser scanners, Equator systems, and other advanced metrology tools is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Detail‑oriented with a high level of accuracy.
Preferred Industry Background
- Automotive, Sheet Metal Stamping, or Precision Manufacturing environments.
